LEVER LOCK HANDLE BACKGROUND
The first generation Lever Lock handle (MK1) was released 12 years ago. Unfortunately, the manufacturer of these handles failed to maintain the quality standards required and a number of the handles they produced for us were not up to scratch. Due to the length of the building process and the time it took for the handles to fail, it took a couple of years before we started receiving consistent feedback that some handles were starting to break.
We are really sorry that some of our customers have experienced this problem. If you have been one of the unlucky ones to have had issues with the original Lever Lock handle, here’s an update on what we have done to address this and how we can help you.
WHAT WE HAVE DONE ABOUT IT
As soon as we realised there was a problem with certain batches of handles, we worked with the manufacturer of the Lever Lock to improve the performance of the product. Each new design was tested and rejected until we were confident the new version of the handle met our quality performance criteria. These tests show the new handle introduced in 2015, is at least seven times stronger than the original and will not snap with normal everyday use.
The manufacturer’s warranty period for any moving part such as door handles, hinges or rollers is two years. This is standard across the window & door industry. However, even though the original MK1 Lever Lock handle is now well outside this warranty period, Jason Windows has been happily providing new handles free of charge with the intent to match your builders 6 year statutory warranty under the Building Services Act 2011.
MK1 LEVER LOCK REPLACEMENT OPTIONS
All MK1 Lever Lock handles are now at least 4 years past the manufacturers’ 2 year warranty and past or nearing the end of your builders’ statutory warranty.
Door handles are moving parts and as such are subject to wear and tear under normal use. If your MK1 Lever Lock handle was broken under normal everyday use and your home is outside of your builders’ statutory warranty, you have two options:
- Replace the handle yourself, by purchasing a replacement set via our spare parts shop. Follow the handy video on this page to see how easy it is.
- Alternatively, if you would like one of our technicians to come out and replace the broken handle in your home, we will do this for the reduced call out rate of $99 (normally $165) plus the cost of the new handle. So your total cost for us to come out and do this for you is $192.50 for a silver handle or $202.50 for a black handle.
